OH House 72nd: Three Dems Compete to Challenge McGregor (R)

This story in the Springfield News-Sun profiles the three Democratic candidates who have filed election petitions to run against appointed incumbent Ross McGregor (R-Springfield) in the Ohio House 72nd District. City Commissioner Kevin O’Neill (D-Springfield) is quoted as saying that his business background will help him bring a new perspective to the school funding issue. He also wants to ease the concern of local governments worried there will be cuts each time a new budget is approved. "We need to stop scaring local governments," O’Neill said. Former Mayor Dale Henry (D-Springfield) said it is premature to focus on the issues. However, he said he can bring a different outlook than his opponents. "I’m convinced I can have a lasting and positive effect on Democrats," Henry said. Richard Spangler (D-Springfield), a stay-at-home father, said two issues he will focus on will be attracting jobs and fixing school funding. Just because the Springfield city school levy was recently passed shouldn’t stop the fight for the state to help similar districts. Spangler unsuccessfully ran for the seat two years ago, receiving 40.21% of the vote. The 72nd District covers Clark County.
