Ohio House 73rd: Holloway (R) Hospitalized After Admitting Suicidal Thoughts

Phil Holloway (R-Mansfield) was hospitalized early yesterday morning (October 31st) after telling police that he was considering suicide. Holloway opposes Jay Goyal (D-Mansfield) for the open seat of term-limited Rep. Bill Hartnett (D-Mansfield). From the Mansfield New Journal:
The two have waged a vigorous campaign for the office with accusations made by both sides involving taxes, ethics and other issues. Holloway's ex-girlfriend, Sheila Reiselt, of Highland Avenue, called police shortly before 6 a.m. and said Holloway, who lives on Coleman Road, left her a voicemail message that he was going to kill himself with an overdose of prescription medication. Mansfield police Chief Phil Messer said Holloway was taken to the hospital and admitted on an emergency basis after telling police he was considering an overdose. ...

Goyal issued a statement Tuesday afternoon asking area residents to keep Holloway and his family in their prayers. "Though we have not always agreed on issues, I have a great deal of respect for Phil," Goyal said. "Me and my family wish him a speedy recovery." Goyal said he instructed his campaign team to stop all communications that mention Holloway by name.

Having had suicide hit my family, I send my best wishes to Phil as well.

People who aren't in the middle of a political campaign can't understand how stressful it can be.
