Cong OH-13: Fitting Words for 9/11 from Sutton (D)
A few appropriate words from 13th Congressional District candidate Betty Sutton (D-Copley) on this solemn occasion:
"On this the 5th Anniversary of 9/11, my heart, prayers and hopes continue to go out to the thousands of families who suffered, sacrificed and lost those they loved.
"Today we remember, but tomorrow we must rededicate ourselves to serve their memories by ensuring this tragedy is never suffered again by other citizens of this country.
"Reflecting on the five years since the attack, I can't help but feel sadness and grave concern.
"The threat of Islamic extremism is real and must be dealt with severely. Where there are terrorists plotting to kill Americans, we must find them and destroy them.
"We also need to take additional steps to combat terrorism. We need to double America's investments in alternative energy and slash our dependence on Mideast oil. We should immediately implement the recommendations of the 9/11 Commission. And we must restore our damaged relations with NATO and our other allies to ensure they share the burden for our efforts to combat terrorism.
"Today is a day for reflection and prayers but it is also a day of resolve and strength drawn from the determination to see our citizens safe and protected from harm."
