Ohio House 63rd: Schindel (R) Campaign Manager & "Menace to Sobriety"

Incumbent Tim Cassell (D-Madison) has been ruthlessly targeted by the Republican caucus and his opponent over Cassell's DUI conviction earler this year. This is concededly a matter for voters to consider, but the constant lambasting of Cassell by challenger Carol-Ann Schindel (R-Painesville) for this mistake seems excessive in light of the serious substantive issues facing the state.

Reader John R., a lifelong Lake County resident, wrote to bloggers over the weekend to report that the endless harping on the DUI episode also seems very hypocritical when you take into account the recent history of Schindel's campaign manager, 2005 OSU political science grad Troy Judy. Judy's profile at Facebook.com is clean now, but the reader provided me with images from how it was just a few days ago. Judy is identified as a member of groups called "Menace to Sobriety" and "Sleaze Anonymous," and his profile included these pictures:

This apparent hypocrisy is too much for my reader, who asks:
[H]ow can a woman who constantly lambasts her opponent for a drunk driving violation hire and stand beside a man who seems to be a strong proponent of alcohol abuse? The simple fact of the matter is most alcoholic behaviour is formed during ones college years. Thus, this guy is setting one of the worst examples possible for our youth by further entrenching the mindset of "alcohol abuse is cool" that is all to apparent in our youth today.

How does a college student's interest in drinking -- which, if he's 21, is legal -- make his candidate's focus on the illegal actions of an opponent "hypocritical"?

This is more than a stretch, and it's kinda disappointing to see you stooping to the level of scoping out campaign staffers to show that -- gasp! -- young people do shots.

I've never seen anything so juvenile in my life. Are you going to show him in a car driving 45 in a 40 zone next? If this is the best you can do, its time to find a new career

I bet he was smart enough NOT to drive home though (unlike Mr. Cassell). He's such a victim! :(

Nice try YDS, but I think you have outlived your usefulness. Way too biased!

You should really just leave this stuff to PBD. (Maybe you can be his assistant/typist) At least he has a BS filter.

Way to go! I have to give you credit for this. You have NOTHING on the candidate so you take a pot shot at a campaign staffer. Oh wait, maybe I shouldn't say "pot"... it might come back to haunt me!

"He just took off ... didn't offer any apology ... no insurance," said Amanda Nebbia.

Mr. Judy is known to be an official insurance-owning citizen of Ohio-- not a drunken college drop out that re-inacts scenes from Deliverance with his hunting buddies.

I think Mr. Judy should be commended for finishing college with a degree in Political Science, abiding by the law, and taking time to celebrate with friends in a safe and responsible manner.

Jaundice Dog Sammy, you are a modern day Alfred Hitchcock. Let's find a picture of a college student taking a shot on his friend's 21st birthday and call it "alcohol abuse". Im sure you can find a picture of troy wearing diapers when he was 1 or 2 years old and say he has a bladder problem too. Should we mention that he paid his way through school, was a fraternity president, and has a political recommendation list as long as anybody's his age? Until you have an actual story to report, snoop, focus on the politics of the candidates, not what their staffers drank at a bar in college.

I bet, if you really examine this matter, you will see it delves even deeper than meets the eye. Mr. Judy has long been involved in the Antarctica Mafia. While the organization is controlled by the penguins, notably the Emporer Penguins, Mr. Judy keeps the books for this organization. They have been involved in the seedy underbelly of Americanada for some time. They are known to give free breast implants to underdeveloped girls and sell copies of pirated versions of Rambo (just the 1st one, the rest suckzord) to unsuspecting Inuits. The majority of their money, however, comes from the illegal human fur trade. They sneak into barber shops after hours and gather up all the hair and make coats to sell to animals. Its absolutely horrid.

I think it's high time this criminal organization has been exposed. For further information, read the wikipedia (bastion of knowledge) article on "turd burglers".

Horrid...........and this man wants to run for Captain of America some day.......

First a fine but significant point: Ms. Schindel did not and has not attacked Cassell on this issue. The Ohio Republican Party has attacked Cassell on this issue with weekly mailings and monthly phone calls. Second, Cassell wasn't just DUI, he nearly did a hit and run except for political connections preventing the victim from testifying. Third, one of Cassell's stances is against DUI; so he is a hypocrite on this issue. So Troy drinks, too. I'll get my camera and find a few photos of Tim Cassell at his local bar.

Today, I saw a large banner outside the bar at Helreigel's in Painesville Twp. The banner boasted an endorsement for Cassell by the Ohio Chamber of Commerce, but I think that its funny that a bar is endorsing Cassell.
