Ohio House 63rd: Cassell (D) Pleads No Contest to DUI Charge

The Dayton Daily News is reporting that 63rd District State Rep. Tim Cassell (D-Madison) pleaded no contest to a drunken driving charge on Friday after rear-ending another car, causing a minor neck injury to the other driver, after midnight near an entrance ramp to Ohio Highway 2. Cassell failed a field sobriety test. He was sentenced to a year of probation and two days of community service, was fined about $1,000, and his driver's license was suspended for six months, with work privileges after 15 days.

Cassel apologized in a statement: "I made a big error in judgment, and I am taking responsibility for my actions."

This news is potentially devastating to Cassell's reelection bid. He won his Lake County district in 2004 by the tiny margin of 0.9% over Republican B.J. Kresnye. He faces accountant Carol-Ann Schindel (R-Painesville) in November.

This just became a very expensive seat for the Democrats to hold. This seat is now in play big time.

It was already in play. Now it's gone. Better off spending that money protecting Fende, or Lake Co. could be all red again.

What an unbelievably dumb thing to do. But I doubt its completely fatal to a campaign. People have won with far worse things on their record and many politicians have survived a single dui.

Is it not interesting that politicians and attorneys when cited for DUI or other traffic violations seem to appear in Court for the charge other than the indicated time the matter has been previously scheduled. I strongly believe that if me or another individual not in the attorney or political section were charged, the Judge would not accomodate a request other than the scheduled time previously scheduled on the Judge's docket. We should all be thankful and grateful that no one was seriously injured and a tragedy did not occur.

just more hypo-crat hypocracy -- dare i mention alice resnick or fellow dem william jefferson down in louisiana who is going is further along in his congressional malfiesence. dems are more corrupt than the gop -- just ask zach reed up in cleveland (and there is a reason why cuyahoga means crooked -- not for the river but for the democrat pols!!!)

so go ahead, waste your time and defend all you want but this ex dem knows where all the dirt is buried (and am surprised that hoffa wasnt buried under jimmy traficant's barn) so i would be very careful how you attack me because I bite back VERY hard and can be extremely vendictive and have already revoked sammys dem membersup
