Ohio Sen 33rd: Boccieri (D) Now Unopposed

The Youngstown Vindicator reported Friday that Tracy S. Winbush (R-Youngstown) has officially withdrawn from the 33rd Ohio Senate District race. Because it is too late for the Republican Party to substitute a new candidate, Winbush's move leaves State Rep. John Boccieri (D New Middletown) without opposition in November. Winbush said she is withdrawing to accept a position with an unspecified community service organization. Winbush said that she may run for Youngstown City Council next year.

Boccieri said he will continue to campaign hard for the Ohio Senate, where he will represent all of Mahoning and Carroll counties and part of Stark and Tuscarawas counties, replacing term-limited State Sen. Robert F. Hagan (D-Youngstown). A former Ohio House Assistant Minority Whip, Boccieri also said he wants to pursue a leadership role in the Ohio Senate.
