Cong OH-12: Shamansky (D) Calls For Hastert & Boehner To Resign
Proving once again that he's nobody's idea of a shrinking violet, former congressman Bob Shamansky (D-Bexley) has called for the immediate resignation of Republican House Majority Leader John Boehner (R-West Chester) and House Speaker Dennis Hastert (D-IL) over the cover-up of the Mark Foley (R-FL) scandal involving sexually explicit e-mails sent to teen-age House Pages, and questioned why opponent Rep. Pat Tiberi (R-Westerville) has been silent on the matter:
Said Shamansky, "the time has come for House Speaker Dennis Hastert and House Majority Leader John Boehner to resign from Congress. It's now clear that they both knew for many months that one of their fellow Republican congressmen was sending inappropriate messages to several teenage boys who worked in the House as pages. That they both did nothing and refused to investigate -- that they both apparently put politics above protecting 15 and 16 year old children -- borders on criminal negligence. The House should be called into special session immediately to elect a new Speaker."
"And why has Pat Tiberi been silent on all of this? Nobody talks more about family values than Pat -- and nobody does less to clean up the ethical sewer than Congress has become. He brags about how "independent" he is -- but then looks the other way when members of his own party are guilty of misconduct. But Pat's "hear no evil, see no evil" act is wearing thin -- and his hypocrisy speaks volumes. 15 and 16 year old boys were being victimized by one of his fellow Congressman. Where is Pat's outrage? Where are his "family values"? And if he won't call for the resignations of Hastert and Boehner, he needs to tell the voters why."
